Facebook Secretary (1): Facebook’s experience in the Chinese-speaking society is getting worse, why?

In recent months, Facebook's newsfeed has reported from time to time that so-and-so has entered the "metaverse prison" and that so-and-so wants to "see you in 30 days". All of these people have been suspended by Facebook for violating their "Community Guidelines", and some users have had their entire accounts removed. On the other hand, we still see a lot of phishing advertisements, fake news, fake user irrigation on Facebook, and the user experience is getting worse.

Hello everyone, I am from Hong Kong and I am engaged in IT related work. Allow me to publish articles here under the pseudonym ashika. All the while, I've been doing CD-ROMs in Matters (read only, not publish). Recently, I have been feeling the various problems of facebook, and I have some ideas about guiding users to transfer from facebook to other social platforms, and I want to see everyone's opinions in this circle. This article will first talk about the problems I observe in facebook in Chinese society.

Mass whistleblowing affects the algorithm

Facebook's so-called "community code" has a vague definition. Individual employees and algorithms identify "violators" and "rectify the law on the spot." Suspects often have no chance to clarify and appeal, and some users are even targeted for that comment. do not know either. Searching for "community violations" on facebook , I found that there are many victims of Chinese-speaking world users.

A few days ago, Channel C, a small online media founded by a former Hong Kong Apple Daily reporter, was deleted from its entire Facebook page for no reason because of its "Community Guidelines". Even though the Channel C page has been preserved after people from all walks of life raised their voices, many people believe that they feel the same as me, that Facebook, the "metaverse dictator", is a threat to freedom of speech on the Internet.

Channel C posted on Instagram that its facebook page was abruptly shut down

Facebook has recently randomly banned speech in the Chinese community (in fact, there are also various language communities around the world), in addition to some artificially caused by post reviewers with dubious qualifications and positions, Facebook also uses AI and algorithms Laws to infer whether a post is illegal. Since the algorithm largely relies on machine learning to judge illegal posts, the learning samples of machine learning are often reported by users. In the Chinese-speaking society, the Internet army controlled by pro-Communist people systematically and intensively reports, and Internet bigwigs mobilize their followers to report each other because of their political views. Therefore, the censorship algorithm of the Chinese-speaking society is getting worse and worse, and users In addition to "spam", the grounds for tragic banning, left-wing accusations such as " incitement to hatred " and "discrimination" have also become common grounds for banning.

facebook allows pro-communists to publish fake news

While there are a lot of bans on "unjust, false and wrongful convictions" on Facebook, Facebook has not yet actively dealt with fake news in the Chinese community. In Hong Kong, pro-Communist political groups have been cultivating a group of Internet cafes called "KOL100". The information they reposted has been judged as fake news by fact-checking agencies many times, and it has also been confirmed as the source of several fake news (see appendix). However, facebook has not taken any action. Recently, Li Zijing, a pro-CCP person who has repeatedly posted fake news on Facebook, was invited to visit Facebook's Hong Kong office with several henchmen. This move by Facebook has raised eyebrows among Hong Kong netizens, worried that Facebook's Hong Kong office may be infiltrated or even "united front".

Summary: Will users leave?

Under the attack of "indiscriminate suspension" and "condoning fake news", Facebook's user experience is getting worse and worse. Users in Hong Kong have tried to appeal to users to switch to other social networking sites such as MeWe and Mastodon, but they have failed. Long-term users have too many fetters on Facebook. We must carefully sort them out to help them liberate from this "metaverse dictatorship" step by step. I will continue to discuss it in the next article.
