British classic national dish - fish and chips

When it comes to the cuisine of each country, it seems that many countries have many mouth-watering delicacies. Needless to say, Chinese delicacies, French foie gras, giant snails, duck confit and so on. But when it comes to the UK, what's there to eat? To be precise, it's not delicious, it's worth mentioning? The first thing that comes to mind is the national dish of England: fish and chips.

Fish and chips are so popular in the UK that wherever you go, you will see a fish and chip shop. Not only is it necessary in various British restaurants, but even in the cafeteria of my unit, fish and chips are always provided every Friday. Even at the school where the kids go to school, every Friday is "Fishy Friday," serving up the kids' favorite fish and chips.

Although the price of this dish is not high, it has a very high status in the eyes of the British. So much so that when President Xi visited the UK, former British Prime Minister David Cameron once served President Xi with fish and chips in a bar. Since then, many Chinese tour groups have added fish and chips to their itineraries.

The fish in the fish and chips here generally chooses fresh cod or plaice. After washing the fish, wipe off the water on its surface, coat it with a thin layer of flour, and then dip it with flour, salt, and milk. The pulp is ready to fry. Usually fish and chips are served with a variety of sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, and the British favorite curry sauce. Also paired with mashed peas or baked beans in tomato sauce.

But speaking of it, the famous British dish actually originated from the Jews of Spain, who brought fish and chips to the United Kingdom in the 16th century. Britain, like many other countries, practiced food rationing during World War I and World War II. Only fish and chips are not restricted, as long as you have money you can buy them.

Now this famous British food is not only a favorite takeaway for many British people, but also the first choice for filling your stomach after drinking in the bar and getting hungry (yes, drinking and not eating). That's why many fish and chip shops close late.

When I first came to the UK, I didn't like this dish very much, after all, it was fried and felt too greasy. After eating it once, I often don't want to eat it for a few months. Gradually, I feel I get used to it, and if I don't eat it for a while, I still think about it. Forgot where I read the report, there are also British fish and chips shops in China.
