turbulent wandering

The Song of Maldorro is really a book that is easily misunderstood, as the author himself reminded at the beginning, "May the daring reader who has become as fierce as this book for a while not lose his way and find a remote and dangerous road. , through the desolate swamps—these gloomy, poison-drenched chapters; for, if he read with paranoia, incoherence, and concentration, the deadly smog of the book would cloud his soul, as if Water drowns sugar. Everyone reads the following, it’s not necessary, only a few people can taste this bitter fruit safely.” Readers are likely to get lost in the flood of metaphors and thorny descriptions, and eventually become unsure of their own. The feeling and meaning of this book. This is normal, because at its core, the Song of Maldorro presents a chaotic mental picture that is constantly changing its appearance like boiling iron, and the author is constantly in the text. Fighting with each other, good and evil are mixed together, indistinguishable and difficult to capture. But the key question is, what kind of picture does the song of Maldorro show, and what lies in ambush under that shuddering shell?

An obvious clue is in the author's letter to a friend: "The poetic groans of this century are nothing but ugly sophistry. Singing trouble, pain, sadness, melancholy, death, ghosts, gloom, etc., is reckless. I just want to see the childish inverse of everything. Lamartine, Hugo, Musset voluntarily become little women. They are the soft big heads of our time. Always groaning! So I completely changed my approach and just sang 'Hope', expectation, 'peace', 'happiness', 'duty'." (Letter to Dallas, Paris, March 12, 1870) It is not difficult to find what is advocated here and shown in the Maldorot song The content is very different, and it is even quite fair to say that Maldorro's song is precisely the opposite of his idea of "singing". In fact, the author did not intend to express this dark and brutal state, but this state appeared before himself, and the author just recorded this spiritual change honestly. But this does not mean that the song of Maldorro is just a record of mental illness. The author just shows the struggle and rebirth of the individual in the entangled and frantic spirit. It can also be said that the song of Maldorro is a modern A person's history of disease and self-healing. But the author's way of treating illnesses seems unacceptable. His method is not to give people a panacea for all diseases, but to absorb darkness and filth in an airtight poison pot until they can immune, and become stronger and healthier as a result. Henry Miller commented on Rimbaud, Lautre Amont and others in "The Age of Murderers": "As the connoisseurs of choice, they make their homes everywhere, they understand the meaning of hell, but they do not settle there, or even do Mundane existence. They are detached, revelling in the gap between one state of existence and another. But those tormented-time-born, rhythm-born-free spirits can only take these intermediate states It can be interpreted as hell itself." (62) The era of rapid change has destroyed people's overall understanding of themselves, consciousness is blown to pieces and becomes chaotic, the pressure of the other breeds disease, and all others are "I", "I" suck up all the dirt and dust like a trash can. In such an atmosphere, the author approached hell. Although he could not change hell, hell did not overwhelm him. The genetic mutation made him a new human, and he began to appreciate this ugly and magnificent sight. The author did not succumb to this chaotic state, and in those crazy words, we can still glimpse the flash of reason: "You are a hateful spy, monitoring my causal relationship, I should not suffer this shameful torture! If I Existing, I am not another. I do not allow this ambiguous multiplicity in me. I want to live alone in my covert reasoning, independent...or turn me into a hippo.” (153)

In response to this unyielding spirit, there is a sense of humor. In the face of a mad world, amoral state, and terrifying violence, Maldorro appears so light, even reminiscent of Calvino's description in the classic "Memorandum of Literature for the New Millennium", perhaps we can also say , Maldorro is Perseus who cut off Medusa's head with the help of the mirror image. Although Maldorro's world is full of violent and crazy landscapes, he is able to fly among octopuses and lice, which is the embodiment of a healthy spirit. Comparing with Nietzsche's point of view in "Beyond Good and Evil", perhaps we can be more Good understanding of this: "Misery, the cultivation of great suffering--don't you know, the only cultivation that has done all the advancement of mankind hitherto? The soul is tense in misfortune, the tension that makes it strong , its trembling as it witnesses great destruction, its invention and bravery as it endures, survives, interprets, and consumes misfortune, and those things that have always been bestowed upon it only through depth, secret, mask, spirit, cunning, and greatness :—Aren’t these gifted to the soul under suffering, under the cultivation of great suffering?” (199) Interestingly, the author, during his hell-walking with Maldorro, did not forget To the "grinning teeth" readers who were tortured by these strange words outside the book, he said with a joking tone: "If unfortunately, the reader does not like my prose, may he not be angry with me. He admits that my thoughts are at least unique. Yes. Honourable man, you speak the truth, but it is a biased truth, and any biased truth is a rich source of error and misunderstanding!" (144) "In short, I think you Perfection...but you don't want to understand me! If you are not well, take my advice to go for a walk in the country (this is the most helpful advice I can give you). Sad compensation, are you satisfied? You breathe fresh Air, come back to me: you'll be refreshed. Stop crying, I didn't mean to make you sad. My friend, in a way, haven't my songs already won you over?" (145 ) In the works, there are more examples of humor, such as the various funny incidents encountered by the angel who turned into a zodiac crab. The young Melvin trusted the blond thief to go to the appointment but was put in a bag as a dog. This kind of humor is similar to " The scene in "The Giants" is not the kind of reserved and polite humor in the civilized world, but a humor that stretches and exaggerates human temperament. However, at the same time as humorous, the author unexpectedly objected to "laughing", "Ah, abominable depravity, when people laugh like a goat! The calmness of the forehead disappears, giving way to two huge fish eyes ( Isn't that sad?)...they...they started to glow like beacons! I'm going to seriously state some of the funniest statements...I don't think that's a good enough reason to widen my mouth! I can't help but laugh , you will argue against me like this, I accept this absurd interpretation, but at this point, it will be a melancholy laugh. Laugh, but cry at the same time." Suffering humor in modern society does not come for free , as Bergson reminds in his discussion of laughter, there is a sense of indifference in laughter, but Maldorro's laughter is not an indifference. A more accurate description is that the song of Maldorro is a kind of black humor, a humor in which the wings of freedom soar in the sky but the body is imprisoned in hell. This humor is heroic but not sad.
