Wood - Making a Screen Stand for Work (Part 1)

need

It took more than a year since I started to learn woodworking. With a little foundation, I asked my friends to think about whether I needed anything. It was just enough for me to practice and to fill the time after get off work. My friend works in a technology company. The company is equipped with a laptop. Usually, it will be used with an external screen, so I need a screen stand. The laptop is placed in the lower space and the screen is placed above. Various USB and laptop locks need to be connected on both sides. He also quickly gave me the model and size of the laptop, and let me decide slowly.

Thinking and Prototype

At first, I found a lot of pictures of similar products, but I didn't like them very much. Many of them were rigid straight lines or plastic-like textures. After changing a few sets of keywords, I finally found a shelf made of composite materials that is more pleasing to the eye. , At that time, I imagined that if the whole seat was made of solid wood, it would be very beautiful.

Because there are a lot of cables (USB/HDMI) in the space below The idea of shooting right away

Fucks prototype number 1

The final decision is as follows, the back foot is connected to the long side of the back, so that the laptop will directly lean against the back foot when advancing, and the back foot will not block the position of the rearmost laptop lock.

preliminary verdict

Preliminarily made a small model, took some leftover pine wood and saw it at will, glued it, and ground it. The model is as follows, it seems to be OK

model making

However, the tenon joint of the front and rear feet seems to be not ideal, and there are some weaknesses in the structure. We must think about it again. Finally, there is a clearer prototype and tenon joint pattern as follows

find material

Because the 25 cm panel is a bit wide, in fact, such a wide material is not easy to find. Usually, a panel is used, that is, two or three pieces of wood are glued together as a panel. But I was lucky enough to find a wide enough board, and it was ash that I liked, and I just bought the four-legged material together, ready to start pulling.
