Hume, a Web3 record company, is developing a virtual artist project called "Metastars". The company uses music NFTs to promote virtual artists and nurture the virtual artist's community. The Hume team believes that if music NFTs succeed, millions of artists will use virtual identities to represent themselves.

【About Hume】
Hume is one of Web3's native record labels focused on leveraging the technology of blockchain to create a deeper connection between music artists and their fans.

Holders of Hume NFTs can influence the development of "Metastars". Hume's official website defines Metastars as Web3 native, influential virtual music artists that can exist in both the metaverse and the present. Hume's goal is to become the leader of Web3 Records, promoting virtual artists.

Crypto Briefing spoke with Hume co-founders David Beiner and Jay Stolar to find out what motivated them to launch Hume, their musical background, and how NFTs play a role in creating a community-driven platform for virtual artists.

【Angelbaby and Metastars】
Hume's first Metastar is Angelbaby, an NFT from the Non-Fungible Labs, FLUF World series.

Before becoming Hume's Metastar, Angelbaby was already a well-known artist. He not only performed live performances of art and music, but also ranked first in the best-selling music NFTs on platforms such as OpenSea and Audius.

In the world of Hume, Angelbaby takes on another new role: a founding member of the Hume team, a time traveler from the year 3045.

The story goes like this, in the distant future, all creative things are controlled by the Xani Republic. In order to fight against Xani, Angelbaby travels back to the present through time and space, and sets up a rebel artist group "Hume" to protect the metaverse at all costs. Stolar emphasizes that Hume is an exercise in creating a world and a new way for fans to connect with artists.

【Creator Background】
In addition to Angelbaby, the other founders of Hume also have their own stories. Jay Stolar is Hume's lead artist with extensive experience in acting, songwriting and music production, not only writing songs for the likes of Aloe Blacc, Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen and Demi Lovato, but also for hit games like League of Legends and Fortnite Made music.

While Stolar was making music for other artists, he realized that the lines between real and virtual were blurring. For example, Stolar's League of Legends project with Riot Games involved making music for virtual artists while they simultaneously Also a playable character in the game.

Despite some skepticism that fans will be able to connect with artists the way they do in the real world, the success of projects like Seraphine and K/DA has opened new doors for music-making models.

When Stolar discovered the untapped potential of virtual music artists, his colleague (Hume co-founder) David Beiner was exploring blockchain technology and metaverse theory. "We're going to have a digital product, a virtual artist that blurs the lines between reality and reality," added Beiner.

【Hume Genesis NFTs】
To complement the development of a platform for virtual music artists, Hume chose to use virtual assets in the form of NFTs to bridge the gap between artists and fans. When asked why NFTs are the best choice for the hume collective, Beiner gave two main reasons: “community” and “intellectual property rights.”

By holding NFTs, collectors can be granted benefits such as voting rights, Discord licensing rights, or airdrops, a nascent blockchain-based technology that makes managing communities and rewarding members easier than ever.

In addition to knowing exactly who a virtual artist's fans are, holders of Hume's Genesis NFTs have the right to decide the future of the Hume community.

Stolar is careful to distinguish Hume from the token voting mechanism in the DAO governance structure "Because Hume is not a DAO, we won't have community proposals. It's more of a story in which everyone will have Hume in the future. Genesis, and will meet in one place and make decisions together," Beiner explained.

1000 Hume Genesis NFTs will be distributed for free to collectors with Angelbaby POAPs or Angelbaby Music NFTs. After the airdrop, the Genesis NFT level will be displayed as one of rare, ultra-rare, and legendary, and different levels will correspond to different Hume decision-making powers.

Regarding the additional benefits of holding higher-level NFTs, Beiner hinted at exclusive dinners, backstage passes to events, and priority admission to Metaverse concerts. "I'll let you imagine all the possibilities," he said.

Starting with Hume's first Metastar, Angelbaby, each of Hume's virtual artists has their own Genesis NFT campaign. Each holder of Metastar's genesis NFT has the right to make decisions related to the development of the music business and may face music production, including which songs should be included in the album, which works should be released as singles, the presentation of album cover art, etc.

“If you have 1,000 passionate fans, let them be part of the process, they are the listeners and the people who love it the most,” Beiner said.

【The future of music】
Although Hume is still in the early stages of development, Beiner and Stolar believe that NFTs will eventually change the way we interact with and consume music. They see Web3 and blockchain as the next big technological evolution in the way people interact with music, just as the licensing and digitization of records makes music portable.

At the same time, they also admit that it is not easy to bring music NFTs into the mainstream. "Music NFTs have definitely not received the same amount of attention and love as PFP projects or visual arts, and there are definitely other big obstacles," Beiner said.

In terms of virtual artists, Stolar recommends looking at angelbaby and their music to fully understand the concept of virtual artists. "In a few years, I think millions of people will be using virtual avatars to represent who they are as artists," he said, sharing his optimistic thoughts, hypothetically.

Whether Hume can achieve its vision of becoming the premier Web3 record label depends in large part on the success of musical NFTs as a concept. Other Web3 music platforms such as Audius, Catalog, and RŌHKI are also helping to develop music NFTs, but like Hume, they have not yet been adopted by the mainstream. However, as blockchain technology develops, more artists may see music NFTs as a viable option to connect with their fans in an unprecedented way.
