suffering in the cabin

The real problem isn't its condition, it's that you shouldn't depend on it.
Rain leaks in Nanhui cabin

Yesterday it rained heavily in Shanghai, and many videos, pictures, and testimonies came out on the Internet. Nanhui Fangcang shelter hospital was "heavy rain outside the house and light rain in the house". In the video, the slogan "We will definitely win" is hung on the wall in the distance, "We will win with all our will, and we will fight against the epidemic," while the beds are covered with tarpaulins. For many, it may be an experience they have never had in their entire life.

At the bottom of the video, the highest likes are probably like this:

"This is not rain, this is the tears of the people of Shanghai."

"This is actually the tears of God + the tears of the people of the whole country."

"An ignorant rain washed away the heavy makeup painted on this city."

"I understand why so many people are yang, but they just don't want to go to the cabin."

The reason why the shelter leaked was very simple: it was built in just four days, and it was too late to waterproof. There are many people on the Internet who are scolding the "bean curd slag project" and demanding strict investigation, but the real key to the problem is not which one is cutting corners, but the bust of a myth.

When Wuhan was locked down two years ago, the two major hospitals, Huoshenshan and Leishenshan, started construction overnight, and countless people watched the live broadcast with tears. Difficulties must be overcome. It is also for this reason that the divine comedy such as "The Fangcai Hospital is Amazing" came into being.

At that time, few people realized that there is a limit to this ability. Once it blooms everywhere like Shanghai, when one or two square cabins are far from being filled, all kinds of shortages will be a matter of time. So, this time, there was very little moving news in the Fangcang cabin, but there were all kinds of rumors indicating that the Fangcang cabin hospital was not magical at all.

This is no longer news. On April 2, an expert from the Pudong Center for Disease Control and Prevention said in a telephone recording that the conditions of the shelters were poor, and they could not get effective treatment there. On April 10, the Weibo account "Sunny Pig Pig 88" posted a video, which was viewed by more than 1.07 million people within a day. She said that it has been 15 days in the Shanghai Expo cabin H1, "Now the nucleic acid test report is cloudy for a while. Yang, many people are on the verge of collapse."

It's not that the medical staff didn't work hard, they were exhausted, but the interior of many hastily rebuilt shelters was poorly ventilated and the signs were unclear, so that the medical staff also risked being infected with positive every day. They are the most broken group in this period of time. Probably because of this, the ridiculous thing at first glance that "a living patient rescues a tired and paralyzed doctor" was reported a few days ago.

Of course, there are also people who thrive in such an environment. On April 11, there was a conversation circulating in the WeChat group. One of the "Zi Xiaowang" said that he was in charge of eating and living in the shelter, and he didn't need to grab food. It's disgusting, except you have to go to the toilet, everything else is done for you well, and you don't have to do it yourself at all", "The atmosphere in the cabin is really good, it's fun, everyone is harmonious and helps each other." .

The final conclusion is: "The system is very good. So if someone is overcast, don't leave. I would rather be a volunteer than stay." There were 52 people who could go home that day, but 5 people were unwilling to leave and became volunteers. "Don't believe in sunspots, they all have a purpose."

Some people suspect that these words are "purposeful". In just one day, even my friends in Wuhan, Chengdu, and Xi'an said they saw it in the owner group. I don't know if this is a real joke or the latest. propaganda offensive. But whether it’s true or not, the key is: if the shelter is really not leaking and the conditions are good, is it worth staying there forever?

Whether it's sincere or not, there's a creepy innocence in it: people voluntarily surrender their freedom in exchange for a life of "food and housing."

Here, Fangcang is a miniature utopian social laboratory, where you are meticulously cared for, seemingly costing nothing out of your own pocket, and in good order, provided you can’t take a single step outside the door. It is conceivable that quite a few people do enjoy this, if they are craving this kind of paternalistic care in the first place.

The Shawshank Redemption stills

In the movie "The Shawshank Redemption", Reed, the black man who had spent most of his life in prison, had an impressive expression: "I tell you, these walls are interesting. At first, you hate them; then, You get used to them; in the end, you start to live without them. That's being institutionalized."

In his memoir "Mao Zedong's Prisoners", Bao Ruowang also mentioned a point: in those famine years, "there were rumors and fantasies", saying how well the prisoners in the labor camps were eating, "I later learned that this was It was deliberately distributed by the interrogators in order to bring about a confession," because "there is no weapon more tempting to cooperate than food." Later, no matter how harsh and unbearable the conditions in the labor camps were, every guard would tell us that we asked where we were going.

After staying there for a long time, he also found a strange change in his heart: "Although I was still malnourished at that time and never recovered, I have adapted to the rhythm of this place and am inexplicably happy."

It's human nature too: you can probably get used to being in any place for a long time, and some people even feel like a duck in water and feel better than outside. But the real problem is not whether its condition is good or bad, but that you should not depend on it - perhaps it can be said that the more you adapt here, the more difficult it is for you to adapt to normal life outside.

Home quarantine in Shanghai

Originally, the purpose of the Fangcang shelter hospital was not to raise a bunch of people, eat and live, but to focus on treating patients, but under the "dynamic clearing", its goal has gradually become to isolate the source of infection. , to achieve social zero. In this regard, the Fangcang is just a sterilized transfer station, which needs to be constantly circulated, and it should not make people dependent on it - it's like a school, don't stay there forever after graduation.

In this round of epidemic, Shanghai has too many infected people, and the original large-scale centralized isolation point only has three or five, and it is too late for treatment. The largest centralized isolation point in Shanghai was renovated by the Shanghai New International Expo Center venue. Construction began on March 25, and only half of the 7,500 beds were delivered by 12:00 on March 31. Considering the number of 10,000 to 20,000 people that has increased since then, it is clear how many people have actually been quarantined at home.

Perhaps because of this, Shanghai was initially more regulated. At the beginning of the month, I heard from a friend that her aunt and cousin were isolated at home after being diagnosed, and "no one cares". However, since April 10, there have been more and more reports of forced transfer and quarantine. Yesterday, I also saw a notice from a Hongkou neighborhood committee: "If residents who are required to be transferred according to regulations refuse to be transferred, if they do not go to the shelter, they will not be transferred. For the entire community, the current policy is that the entire building will continue to be closed and controlled, the risks of residents in the building will double, and there is no hope for the community to unblock."

This may indicate that with the surrounding provinces receiving infected people in Shanghai and some people being discharged from the hospital, the capacity of the square cabins in Shanghai has finally been gradually eased, which can be freed up to attack the fortresses, and vigorously promote the social clearing. But this does not mean that the practice of home isolation is meaningless. On the contrary, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued the "Requirements for the Prevention and Control of Home Isolation Personnel" last night, which euphemistically admitted for the first time that home isolation is feasible.

If the experience of the Shanghainese and the medical staff in the cabin is meaningful, it may be precisely because the hardships they endured prove that in the case of a very low critical illness rate, home isolation is better than going to the cabin. choose. May this be the beginning of a new social consensus.
